Two institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS in Olsztyn and Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding PAS in Jastrzębiec, are members of „Healthy animal – safe food” scientific consortium awarded a prestigious status of the National Leading Research Centre (pol. KNOW) in the field of veterinary sciences.
On April 21, 2015 Prof. Jerzy Duszyński – the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) met, at Staszic Palace in Warsaw, the delegation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) headed by its President - Prof. Wang Weiguang. The meeting was also attended by prof. Andrzej Rychard - Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the PAS.
The General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences held in Warsaw on 23 April 2015 elected as the Vicepresidents of the Academy for 2015-2018 term of office: Professor Stanisław Czuczwar corresponding member of the Academy from Division V: Medical Sciences; Professor Elżbieta Frąckowiak corresponding Member of the Academy from Division IV: Engineering Sciences; Professor Edward Nęcka ordinary member of the Academy from Division I: Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor Paweł Rowiński corresponding member of the Academy from Division III: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.
Nomination of Professor Jerzy Duszyński for the position of the Polish Academy of Sciences President
Ewa Kopacz, Prime Minister of Poland, signed Professor Jerzy Duszyński’s nomination to be the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences during the meeting at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister on 9 April 2015. Professor Jerzy Duszyński was previously elected to this postion by the PAS General Assembly. The ceremony was attended by Lena Kolarska-Bobińska, Minister of Science and Higher Education, and Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and government spokesperson.
On 9 April 2015, the journal Nature carried an obituary of the recently deceased Zofia Kielan-Jaworowska, an ordinary member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) and a retired professor at the PAS Institute of Paleobiology. This is a very rare (if not unique) case in which the lifetime achievements of a Polish researcher working in Poland have earned such prestigious international recognition.
